14. Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (GATE)

Synopsis/Plot Summary: All of a sudden a mysterious portal in the shape of a game appears in the middle of Tokyo! Through the gate supernatural creatures and warriors in medieval armor appear. Charging through the city they kill and destroy everything in their path. Our main character, Youji Itami, an off-duty Japan self-defense forces officer (and otaku) finds himself fending off the attackers and saving as many lives as he can while the rest of the Self-Defense Forces stop the invasion. Youji now leads a special team responsible for seeking out what lies in the world beyond the gate. They now have to travel into this new world in order to learn more about what they are dealing with in attempts to create peaceful ties with the ruling power.

Because of this Ren graduates with little to no self esteem and enters high school in a different prefecture with no plans of getting back into baseball. Fate eventually drags him into joining his new school’s baseball team as the starting pitcher. Regardless of his lack of ability his team here accepts him for who he is and with help from Takaya Abe, he begins to gain the confidence he needs. With newfound potential seen in Ren, Abe sees to it that he can make his friend become a pitcher worthy of being called an ace.
