4. Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope)
Synopsis/Plot Summary: “Sometimes life is like jazz, and goes in an unexpected direction.” For his first year of high school, classical pianist and scholar Kaoru Nishimi transfers to a school in Kyushu and since it’s nothing new to him (having moved around all his life), he enters with no hope for fitting in. After meeting the delinquent drummer Sentarou Kawabuchi, Kaoru is introduced to the world of jazz, and with fellow student Ritsuko Mukae providing the perfect spot for after-school jam sessions in her family’s record shop basement, Kaoru’s life is about to take a major change in key, riddled with sharps and flats along the way.
3. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)
Synopsis/Plot Summary: Phenom pianist Kousei Arima is known as the “human metronome”, blessed with skills nearly unmatched for his age, all due to his strict lessons from his mother that began when he was very young. After his mother passes, however, he falls into despair to the point that he can’t even hear the sound of his own piano anymore. Deciding to give up his life of performing, he leaves behind fans and rivals alike. Two years after the fact, Arima still lives a piano-less life (other than his part-time job of transcribing), but that all changes when he encounters the beautiful violinist Kaori Miyazono who gives him the strength to believe in his music again. Follow Kousei as he recovers his sound buried beneath his deep depression and learns the fact that piano is more than just playing each note right like he’d always been taught.
